CONCEPT STATEMENT

Nowadays a lot of children are very troubled emotionally. It is important to know that children
are not born with social-emotional skills. It is the role of the parents, caregivers, and teachers
of children to teach and foster these abilities.

EQKidz is a Social & Emotional Learning Centre for children Age 6 to 18. They teach children
emotional and social skills to help them improve significantly in all expectations of their lives.
They aim to inspire a positive, kind, caring, empathy, to educate children with essential life
skills through social and emotional learning, to equip them with the knowledge and wisdom to
grow into healthy, happy adults resilient, responsible, respectful, and bright future generation.
Here is the proposal for the new interior design of EQ Kidz at SS15, Subang Jaya to provide a
more comfortable environment and better programs. Hopefully, children are able to calm
themselves in the serenity space and learn through the activities.

The interior design's concept was inspired by the cloud. Cloud is always and never the same,
people do not see their real shape, very much resembles the thoughts and mood. It comes and
goes, doesn't have a direction, it feels an impulsion. It is changeable most of the time but one
of the things that never change about it is that it always on the top because they refuse to
carry any burden. Moreover, even though it is white in color and soft in texture, it looks such
ordinary surroundings in the sky but it still makes a painting out of the sky. It shows how
powerful emotion does just like a cloud, it fills and paints our daily life.

The playful space has deliberately excluded the stereotypical items such as toys and cartoon
characters. To address the concept of ‘pure play’ in a way that could resonate with both
parents and children, I sought to capture the space from the point of view of the children, and
how they interact with the environment. The calm colors and natural wooden materials were
used to avoid emotional overload. Here, they can just focus on listening to the sound from
their soul, slowly understand themselves well and get a better relationship with others.
Hopefully, they can far away from the negative troubles that would affect their lives and find a
better them in the positive environment created. This is how my concept came. I named it as
Unlock “Me”.

There are a lot of interesting spaces that had created purposely for the children and parents to
hit different goals. Firstly, the activity room is specially created for group activities and also the
interaction between parents and children. Other than that, there is also having some special
activities in a specific room such as VR Experiencing Room for children to learn the solving
problems and making decisions skills through acting the character in the animation.
Imagination Room is a special space for children to draw whatever they like on the surrounding
wall then the educators able to do some psychology studies and analysis from their drawings.
There is also a Meditation Room created for children and parents to learn to calm down
themselves and learn the right way to control their own emotions. Lastly, the huge open space
is given a highlight effect to the interior to attract children. It is a huge space with some fun
activities for children to enjoy their time with themselves or parents and other children.
